Patient Preparation
Patient must be 14 years of age or older.
Preferred Specimen Container
Collect
Vaginal, endocervical, throat, or rectal specimen collected with small collection swab from Xpert Swab Specimen Collection kit. Endocervical collections must utilize large cleaning swab prior to collection with small swab.
Also acceptable: First catch urine (20-50mL) in a sterile container.
Swab: Place swab in Swab Specimen Transport Tube, break shaft off at scoreline then recap tube.
Unacceptable Conditions
Large white swab included in kit is for preparatory cleaning of the endocervix and is unacceptable for testing.
Specimens in swab transport without a swab.
Eye or Male Urethral swab specimen cannot be performed using this test. Please contact the lab when collecting these specimens.

Interpretive Data
The Xpert CT/NG test should not be used for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for other medico-legal indications. Additional testing is recommended in any circumstance when false positive or false negative results could lead to adverse medical, social, or psychological consequences.
False negative results may occur if the organism(s) is present at levels below the analytical limit of detection.
The Xpert CT/NG performance has not been evaluated in patients less than 14 years of age.
