A Pinworm Prep order entails microscopic examination of submitted material for the presence of pinworm eggs (Enterobius vermicularis). Sampling of the perianal area is recommended to occur in the morning prior to defecation and washing. Of note, this assay is the preferred means of detecting pinworms; the Stool Ova and Parasite Screen (Egg + Parasite Screen) and accompanying Stool Ova and Parasite Microscopic Exam (Egg + Parasite Complete) orders are lower sensitivity approaches.
