Ordering Recommendations

The urine free light chain test consists of measurements of the kappa and lambda light chains and calculation of the kappa / lambda free light chain ratio. This test is ordered when there is a suspicion of smoldering or active multiple myeloma, MGUS, plasmacytoma or amyloidosis. The free light chain test is also used to assess therapy for patients known to have one of these plasma cell malignancies.
