This is a rapid enzyme immunoassay for glutamate dehydrogenase antigen and toxins A & B for the detection of  C. difficile in stool specimens.

This test is recommended for Ambulatory ordering locations 

C. DIFFICILE ANTIGEN AND TOXIN A/B (LAB257)

Liquid stool, that takes the shape of the container, collected in a clean sterile container.

Preferred specimen: 

• 10 mL of liquid stool in clean vial (white)
  

Alternate specimen: 

• 10 mL of liquid stool in Cary Blair transport media (orange)
  

Minimum sample: 3 mL

3 mL of stool in a clean screw top vial or Cary Blair

Refrigerate up to 24 hours.  Freeze if testing will not be performed within 72 hours.

Stool sent in other additives.
Any non-liquid stool that fails to conform to the shape of the container.
Rectal swab.

Negative for C. difficile toxin A/B

Critical Value: Positive for C. difficile Toxin A/B
