Performed

Daily

Methodology

Qualitative Real-time PCR using Cepheid® GeneXpert®

Reported

Same day

Synonyms

  • GROUP A STREP

GROUP A STREP

Reference Interval

Not detected

Interpretive Data

Interpretation:
Not detected = Absence of Group A Strep DNA
Detected = Presence of Group A Strep DNA

Methodology:
This assay employs real-time PCR amplification using Streptococcus pyogenes specific primers and probes. A "Detected" result should be coupled with clinical indicators for diagnosis. A "Not detected" result for this assay does not exclude Group A Strep involvement in a disease process.  This assay has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for testing throat specimens collected using an ESwab Collection kit. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 ("CLIA") as qualified to perform high complexity clinical testing.
