Nursing Staff and Security are responsible for escorting the patient to the UC San Diego Health System Morgue Cold Room (Hillcrest Room L-430, Thornton Room LL-311). All bodies delivered to the Morgue/Autopsy Suite must go straight to refrigerated storage and must NOT be left on gurneys in the hallway.
The Autopsy Suite does not have an attendant on duty. All routine matters pertaining to the Suite and/or Cold Room (such as admitting or releasing bodies) will be the responsibility of:
Hillcrest: Decedent Affairs and Hospital Security
Thornton: Admissions Department and Hospital Security
Security will confirm I.D. and ensure proper storage of the remains for autopsy
Hillcrest: Security will transfer the patient to another gurney in the cold room and document placement on the Morgue Log
Thornton: Security will place the patient in the appropriate body bay for autopsy
