NOTE: Specimen collection must be performed by a nurse or equivalent.  Patient self-collected specimens are not acceptable.

Collect Nares or Perineum samples using the MSwab collection kit.

In order to obtain an adequate specimen, the procedure for specimen collection must be followed.


NARES COLLECTION

  1. Use the flocked swab provided with the MSwab collection kit.
  2. Use swab dry or pre-moisten with two drops of sterile physiological saline.
  3. Gently insert flocked swab into the first nostril approximately 0.5 inch (1.3 cm).
  4. Rotate against mucosa three times while applying light pressure on the outside of the nostril (to help ensure contact of the swab with the inside of the nostril.)
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 in second nostril with the same swab.
  6. Place swab in vial, snap off swab shaft at the score.  Recap and label appropriately.

PERINEUM COLLECTION

  1. Use the flocked swab provided in the MSwab collection kit.
  2. Use swab dry or pre-moisten with two drops of sterile physiological saline.
  3. Rub flocked swab across the perineum area five times being careful not to collect stool material.
  4. Place swab in vial, snap off swab shaft at the score. Recap and label appropriately.

Unacceptable Conditions

The Flocked swab and fluid must be in the vial. MSwab vials without swabs or fluid will be rejected.
