Unpreserved stool in clean, dry container or stool preserved in Carey-Blair media according to manufacturer's direction. Avoid contamination with water, urine, soap or toilet paper.

Refrigerated (2-8oC) or ambient (2-25oC)

Unacceptable Conditions

Other preservatives or fixatives are unacceptable

Remarks

Rectal swabs are not acceptable. Stool culture will be performed. Stool samples collected on patients hospitalized 4 days or longer prior to collection are not acceptable Bacterial GI PCR Panel.
Specimens submitted to Test of Cure are not acceptable for PCR testing. Refer to Stool Culture (Routine).
