Collect
Whole Blood: Collect one 8 mL Yellow Top Vacutainer Tube with SPS as anticoagulant. Fill with maximum draw if possible: pediatric tubes are not available.
For SMH Inpatient Collections: Obtain collection tubes from hospital stores
For Affiliate Hospitals and Outpatient Collections: Refer to supply ordering website to obtain collection tubes
Storage/Transport Temperature
Submit all in sealed biohazard bags for specimen transport.
Transport to microbiology laboratory at room temperature as soon as possible after collection.

Leaking tubes
Specimens in tubes with anticoagulant other than SPS
Refrigerated specimens
Remarks
