Ordering Recommendations

As of May 6, 2020 orders for LithoLink Supersaturation testing will be changing.
UR Medicine Labs is no longer processing this test.

Please contact LithoLink for a supply of handouts with ordering instructions to be given to the patients. LithoLink will send patient instruction and specimen collection kit and results will be send directly to the ordering provider from LithoLink.

For eRecord users you may still order the test in eRecord, a fax will be generated to LithoLink and they will send a kit to patient with instructions. Once the result is received by the ordering provider from LithoLink, it should be sent to HIM with the attached cover sheet to have results scanned into eRecord.


Below instructions are for lab use only.

 

Patient Preparation

Patient must stop all vitamin C supplements 5 days prior to starting collection and during collection unless otherwise instructed by physician. Preservative must be added to empty collection container prior to collection. Medical history form and the patient information section of the collection data form must be complete.

Specimen must be received at SMH within 24 hours of the stop time, Saturday - Thursday, excluding holidays. Specimens cannot be accepted on Friday - do not start collection on Thursday.

50 mL urine with preservative required

Storage/Transport Temperature

Store ambient.  Ship ambient.

Unacceptable Conditions

  • Collection(s) must be at least 22 hours long but no longer than 26 hours.
  • Litholink must receive sample(s) within 4 days (96 hours) of end date.
  • All urine for each 24-hour collection must be collected. If all urine is not collected, Litholink will be able to detect this and reject sample(s).
  • Do not refrigerate urine. The urine preservative provided will keep urine
    free from bacteria.
  • Preservative must be added before collection OR no later than 8 hours after collection begins.
  • Do not let stool contaminate the collection container.

Remarks

Special form from Litholink required. 

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Samples must be received at Litholink within 4 days of the end date of collection.
