This test is for the diagnosis of acute meningitis.
Results are obtained using the BioFire Diagnostics Inc. FilmArray Meningitis/Encephalitis PCR Panel. This assay does not distinguish between latent and active CMV and HHV-6 infections. Non-K1 E. coli serotypes and non-encapsulated strains of Neisseria meningitidis may be present in the CSF and not be detected by the ME panel. Results should always be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical, laboratory, and epidemiological information.
