Collect

Serum Separator Tube (SST) in a dedicated tube.


PHS Labs: 2 STT Gold Top Microtainer Tubes for pediatric patients.

Either one of these SST (Gold tubes) are acceptable.

Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL serum

Unacceptable Conditions

• grossly hemolyzed specimen
• heat-inactivated specimen
• mislabeled or unlabeled specimens
• quantity is not sufficient for testing (QNS)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Stability (from collection to initiation)

If specimens cannot be tested on the day of collection, specimen should be stored at 2-8° C for up to five days. For a longer storage, serum specimen can be frozen @ -20° C.

Performed

  • Monday - Sunday: 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM. Specimen must be received in the Specialty Lab Serology section by 10:30 PM.
    • For urgent samples, please hand deliver sample to the Specialty Lab at PH3-358. Call ahead to notify the Serology Laboratory at 212-305-9116. If unable to reach a technologist, call the Automated Laboratory Supervisor at 212-305-8600.
  • From 10:30pm - 9:00am, please hand deliver sample to the Automated Lab and inform the Automated Lab Supervisor at 212-305-8600.
    • The Automated Lab Supervisor will ensure this sample is run at the front of the queue when the Serology lab technologist comes in, results should be expected first thing in the morning (9:30 AM – 10:30 AM).

Reported

1-3 days after receipt in lab

Notes

For repeatedly reactive result, a reflexive order for HIV1/2 Supplemental, Geenius assay is created.
