One 6 mL SST (Gold tube) or Red tube.
2.0 mL serum; 0.5 mL minimum.
Unacceptable Conditions
Plasma or other body fluids, severely lipemic, contaminated or hemolyzed specimens.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Refrigerated. If transport to lab is not the same day as collected, aliquot the serum.
Stability (from collection to initiation)
Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: <8 hours; Refrigerated: up to 7 days; For longer storage, freeze at -20 º Celsius. Avoid repeat freeze/thaw cycles.
Performed
Serology/Microbiology - 7 days a week
Remarks
To aliquot: Centrifuge the sample and transfer the serum into a clean tube.
Notes
A positive T. pallidum IgG result will be confirmed by RPR with quantitation (titer) if positive. If RPR is negative, An FTA will be performed.
A non-treponemal test, such as RPR, is recommended for children 6 months of age and younger.
