Collect

Preferred:
Collect both the blood culture set and an additional sterile container.  Send all containers together to the lab.
  • Blood Culture Bottle (Aerobic/Anaerobic Set) 
    Note:  Must add 8-10 mLs of specimen to each bottle.
  • Sterile Leak Proof Container
    Note:  Must contain > 0.5 mL for gram stain.
 or 

Alternate:
  • Sterile Leak Proof Container
    Note:  Must contain > 1 mL.
  • Yellow (SPS, Sodium polyanethol sulfonate)
    Note:  Must be completely filled.
