Target amplification nucleic acid probe test that utilizes target capture for the in vitro qualitative detection and differentiation of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and/or Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) to aid in the diagnosis of chlamydial and/or gonococcal disease.

Patient Preparation

Urine collection: The patient should not have urinated for one hour prior to specimen collection. Female patients should NOT clean the labial area prior to providing the specimen. Collect the FIRST 15-20 ml of urine into a sterile container.

Specimen Preparation


When transferring urine, be sure to fill the specimen to the required line. Overfilling or underfilling will result in rejection. Ensure the lid is lightly sealed before transport.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Unacceptable Conditions

- Swab tubes without Multitest swab present.

- Swab tubes with no media remaining in the tube.

- Overfilled/Underfilled urine Aptimas. - Urine culture tubes, or any urine cup containing an additive.

- Any swab other than the Aptima Multitest Swab.

- Any source not listed as an acceptable source.
