Collect

Collect in light blue top tubes (sodium citrate anticoagulant).
All special coagulation testing may be collected in the same tube, and (1) additonal tube must be added for every (2) additional tests ordered.

One FULL 1.8 mL OR 2.7 mL tube.

Note: For all coagulation testing, ensure tubes are sufficiently filled. Refer to the guide below.

Unacceptable Conditions

Inadequately filled specimens; hemolyzed/clotted specimens; specimens greater than 4 hours old.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Room temperature

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Before Plasma Separation
   Room Temperature ≤ 4 hours
After Plasma Separation (Must be separated within 4 hours)
   Frozen (-20°C) ≤ 2 weeks

Remarks

If the patient's Hematocrit is >55%, call the Coagulation lab at 41778 and ask for a light blue top tube with an adjusted amount of 3.2% trisodium citrate anticoagulant.
