Specimen Preparation

  • Allow serum specimen to clot completely at room temperature for a minimum of 20 minutes.
  • Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. (Min: 0.3 mL)

Unacceptable Conditions

 

  • Patient samples collected in anti-coagulants other than those listed above.
  • Hemolyzed specimens.
  • Patient samples not stored at the correct temperatures.
